Terrel Bernard has history-making performance vs. Patriots
Jamie Germano/Rochester Democrat and Chronicle / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Buffalo Bills' defense was the star of the show in Week 17 when Buffalo faced the New England Patriots. They picked off Bailey Zappe three times, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Rasul Douglas. They also held the Patriots to just 294 yards of offense.

This unit has been incredible over the last month, and really, all year in spite of a lot of changes and injuries. One player in particular, though, has had a record-setting year that no one saw coming.

First-year starting linebacker Terrel Bernard led the team in tackles with 10 on Sunday. He also tallied two sacks, three tackles for loss, and three hits on the quarterback.

With that performance, Bernard raised his number of sacks on the season to 6.5 to go along with his three interceptions and three fumble recoveries, making him the first player since 1991 to have at least six sacks, three interceptions, and three fumble recoveries in a season. Bernard is also only the fourth player since sacks began being tracked as an official stat in 1982 to put up those numbers

There was some concern in the fact that the Bills didn't re-sign Tremaine Edmunds this past off-season, but Bernard has squashed all of those concerns with his play this season.
