Bills receive important update on star player's injury
Mark Koneznyi-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills received a massive scare during Monday afternoon's wild-card matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

During the third quarter, middle linebacker Terrel Bernard was taken off the field in a cart. He went down after tackling receiver Diontae Johnson and remained on the ground in pain following the play.

With the Bills defense already riddled with injuries, losing Bernard would have been a devastating loss. But the latest report is promising.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the X-rays on Bernard's ankle were negative and he is set to get an MRI tomorrow. The initial diagnosis is an ankle sprain.

So far this season, Bernard has three interceptions, five passes defended, three fumble recoveries, 6.5 sacks and 143 tackles. Prior to leaving the game, he had a fumble recovery, two passes defended, and four tackles in Monday's game alone.

With the injuries at the linebacker position, rookie Dorian Williams got some time on the field. He was joined by veteran A.J. Klein who re-signed to the practice squad just this past week.

With the X-ray coming back negative, there is still a chance that Bernard will be good to go next week, especially if it's a low-grade ankle sprain. But all of that will be confirmed in the coming days.

We just have to wait and see.
