Christopher Bell owns up to spinning Kyle Larson, explains how he got into Kyle Busch

Christopher Bell had an eventual afternoon at Circuit of the Americas on Sunday, and left Austin with a P2 finish on the afternoon.

While Bell was enthusiastic with where he brought the car home, certain drivers weren’t very happy with him. Namely, Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson had issues with Bell, with the former even taking it up with the Joe Gibbs Racing wheelman on pit road following the race.

The Richard Childress Racing veteran, and Bell’s former teammate, got spun around by the No. 20 wheelman in Turn 1, and it sank Busch’s chances of a potential top-5 finish. Busch instead would bring his Chevy home in P9 at the end of the race, while Bell ended up on the podium.

Words were exchanged between Busch and Bell, while the latter also had to answer for another incident, where he spun the aforementioned Hendrick Motorsports star in Larson earlier in the race. Afterwards, Bell owned up to the Larson mistake, but he was more confused than anything regarding what happened with Busch.

“I mean, well, first off the Larson incident was 100% my fault,” Bell told Alex Weaver, regarding spinning the No. 5 wheelman out. “That one was, you know, I hate saying sorry, and I didn’t mean to do it, but I clearly did not mean to spin out Kyle. At that point in the race I was just hanging on. Kyle Larson, that is.

“The Kyle Busch incident was a little bit different, because I didn’t see it coming at all. You know, they entered there two-wide, and he opened his entry up and he was so far right, and then he tried to crossover and I was there. So yeah, I didn’t mean to turn anybody, and I got both of Kyle’s today.”

So Larson gets his apology, but Busch might have to wait until later this week to hear Bell’s point of view on the matter. Regardless, the No. 20 is locked into the playoffs by virtue of their win at Phoenix, and that has Bell taking more and more chances at each race throughout the rest of the regular season.

“I mean, yes,” Bell responded, asked if his strategies will involve taking more risks, as he’s locked into the playoffs moving forward. “And you know, looking back at the race, we obviously would have loved to jump that first stage, and probably had a shot at the win, but you never know what’s gonna happen, and we were banking on some yellows at the end, and we didn’t get them.”

Alas, Christopher Bell will have plenty more chances to get to Victory Lane over the rest of the season, but he might have some payback coming to him, by the way of Kyle Busch in the future.
