Virat Kohli has been penalized with 50 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on April 21, Sunday.

The fine has been levied for his outburst against the umpire as he made his displeasure known owing to his dismissal during RCB’s chase. He was adjudged caught and bowled by Harshit Rana off a full-toss, which he deemed to be a waist-high no-ball. Based on ball tracking techonology, which this season also factors in the height of a player, the third umpire reckoned that the ball would’ve dipped below the waist had the RCB opener been batting from his crease.

According to rule 41.7 of ICC regulations, any delivery, which passes or would have passed, without pitching, above waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease, is to be deemed to be unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker. If the bowler bowls such a delivery the umpire shall immediately call and signal No ball.

The third umpire thus, upheld the onfield decision, much to Kohli;s chagrin. While on his way out, the RCB opener could be seen expressing to the umpire his angst over the decision.
